Homework policy: Homework is a way for your student to practice the skills learned at school. Just like with sports, one of the best ways to get better at a skill is to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Each week your child will get reading and math homework. ALL Homework is due on Tuesday (Mondays for the first 6 weeks)!
Reading Log: (Due First Day of the Week)
Your child will receive a reading log each Tuesday. Fourth Grade students are required to read a total of 140 minutes. Reading is reading, so this could include reading a magazine, reading to them, taking turns reading etc. The best way to get better at reading is to READ!!! Students will also need to complete a summary about what they have read. Please be sure to sign their log and have them return it each Monday/Tuesday. They will earn Book Bucks that can be spent at the school's Book Buck Store.
Students who return their Reading Logs on time will also receive a 15 minute Reading Log Recess. Those who don't will have a study hall.
Math: (Due First Day of the Week)
Math homework will be send home on Tuesdays. The Math log will be copied on the back side of the reading log. Each student will receive a sheet multiplication facts that they need to practice. By the end of the week they need to have practiced their facts for a total of 20 minutes. I will be sending a page protector home with them with their first homework. They can simply use a crayon or dry erase marker to practice the sheet, then clean it off for the next time they practice. Each week they will have an opportunity to test up to a new level of facts. In order to move up a level, they will need to complete the facts in 2 minutes or less.
Feel free to have your child practice their facts in other ways if you prefer. Websites, apps, and even flashcards are all acceptable ways to practice and will count for their Math Fact Practice minutes. The file below includes some fun sites that will count as practice time.
